Things to Consider when Buying Your New Tractor
Buying your first tractor can be an exciting yet difficult decision, especially if you are unsure what questions you should consider. At M&R Power Equipment, our skilled equipment representatives are here to assist you in finding the perfect tractor for you and your property. Here are a few questions you should consider when speaking with your equipment representative so they can best navigate you through the process and help you find your new tractor!
1. What is my budget?
Knowing what your budget is, is one of the most important questions you should consider and determine before being sold on a new tractor. Our equipment representatives want to make sure they’re getting you a tractor that best fits your needs and budget. Having a set budget and knowing what you’re willing to pay a little extra for will help start the process off on the right foot and narrow down choices that are affordable for you, while meeting you and your property’s needs!
2. What tasks or projects will I be working on at my property or jobsite?
You should first consider what type of work you will be doing with the tractor and on what terrain. Does your property have hills or is the terrain flat; will there be any obstacle such as brush or trees you would have to navigate through; and will your project include earth moving or hauling heavy loads of material? Knowing the answer to these questions will help your equipment representative determine how much horsepower you’ll need and if you’ll need two- or four-wheel drive. You might also want to consider what types of weather conditions you’ll be using your new tractor in – if you’ll be using it all year-round you might want to consider a climate-controlled cab that shields you from Eastern PA and Western Ohio’s weather.
3. Who will be operating the tractor and what’s their experience level?
Will you be mainly operating the tractor, or will you have someone else operating it daily? Do you and/or the others operating the machine have experience? Considering this question can help you find the best tractor size, transmission (gear drive, hydrostatic, or shuttle) and your control configuration. If you’re not sure which tractor best fits your experience level, one of our knowledgeable equipment representatives will help you determine this!
4. What are my preferred features and functions?
Once you know where and how you’ll be using your new tractor, you can then consider what types of features or functions you want to help narrow down the search. Would you want to have the availability of adding more attachments later down the road, do you see yourself using multiple implements at once or are there any additional tasks you’d like to have the tractor do once your initial task if completed? These preferences can make your decision between tractors much easier and help our equipment representatives make sure they are checking off each of your “new tractor boxes”.
5. Is there a warranty and should I consider an extended warranty?
Most all new equipment we sell at M&R Power Equipment comes with a limited warranty that offers comprehensive coverage and support for necessary repairs. Ask about what is covered under the limited warranty and consider adding an extended warranty to your purchase. Adding an extended warranty can save you money down the road in the case of a breakdown and provide a piece of mind instead of worrying about how you’ll pay for a repair. No matter what you and your new tractor might need down the road, our Service Department is your partner in making sure you get the most out of your equipment, while extending its lifespan.
When it comes down to it, considering these questions will help you and our equipment representatives find you your new tractor! When it’s time to seal the deal, make sure to discuss your financing or cash options with our equipment representatives and they will let you know about expiration dates and/or different incentives you may qualify for. You will find a piece of mind knowing that you made a great choice and that we, as your outdoor equipment dealer, will be here for you and your tractor for years to come!
