Summer Lawn Care Tips
As the seasons change, your lawn care techniques should change as well. Here at M&R we want to help you transition your lawn for warmer weather with ease. Below are some important tips and tricks for keeping your lawn in pristine condition all summer long.
Mowing Height
To encourage strong root growth and heat tolerance, adjust your mower height to leave taller grass, precisely around 3” – 4” tall. This will provide the soil with shade and reduce water evaporation to ensure deeper roots.
Sharpen Blades
To minimize stress on your lawn, be sure to keep your mower blades sharp during hot temperatures. If you are IN need of getting your mower blades sharpened, Contact Our Service Department and we will gladly assist you.
Weeds & Pest Control
With warmer weather comes more insects. Not all insects are harmful to your lawn but bugs like European chafers or Japanese beetles will feed on your grass and lay eggs that can start feasting on your lawn. Apply preventative grub control product to help control pests. For weeds, be careful when using herbicide as it can harm your lawn. Use sparingly on impacted areas. If possible, hand-pull weeds instead of using herbicide to prevent damage to your lawn.
Watering Lawn
Hot weather can rid your soil of moisture and lead to wilted grass blades and higher susceptibility to pests and weeds. You should water your lawn twice a week to avoid this from happening. Ideally, it is best to water in early morning to ensure soil absorption.
